Large planets of the Solar system

Lesson objectives: education – to deepen the students ‘ knowledge about the structure of the Solar system illustrate the difference in size of the planets (which is the reason for the division of the planets on the terrestrial planets and giant planets) and the position of the planets from the Sun (which is the reason for the division of the planets into internal and external), to give a brief description of the physical conditions on these planets, developing the ability of students to compare, to draw conclusions, to explain physical phenomena, educational – ability to work independently and in a team, to form cognitive interest in the study of astronomy.

Please pay attention to the position of the planets from the Sun, the only star in the Solar system: mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. To compare the sizes of planets, will try to enter the scale. Do you have any suggestions?

As a result of discussions come to the conclusion: draw a circle in the square exercise book – it would be the Land and then using the second column of the table, draw all the other planets in the selected scale. So, about palataki in diameter – mercury and Mars in one cell in diameter – Venus, 11 cells in diameter – Jupiter, 9.5 squares – Saturn, 4 squares, Uranus and Neptune. Almost point will be drawn Pluto. We will analyse. Continue reading

Opened biggest star

Its diameter exceeds the corresponding figure of our star 1.3 thousand times the brightness 1 million times

Astronomers from France in the constellation of Centaurus saw one of the largest stars in the Universe belonging to the class of yellow hypergiants. At this point the star is called HR 5171A, it is removed from the Earth is 12 thousand light years.

Instruments of the VLT telescope helped astronomers to estimate the size and other parameters of the giant star HR 5171 A in the constellation of Centaurus, whose brightness is about a million times higher than that of our Sun, and find her “secretive” companion, said in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.

“Observations of HR 5171 A has shown that this world is a neighbor, orbiting around it in close orbit, which is extremely surprised us. These stars are located to each other so close that they touch each other, and the whole system resembles a gigantic peanut walnut. This star-companion is interesting for us from the point of view that it could potentially “strip” the outer shell of a giant and thereby change the course of its evolution,” said Olivier Honestly from the Observatory of the côte d’azur (France). Comet’s tail gave storms and squalls

MOSCOW, October 14 – RIA Novosti. Observing the behavior of the dust tail of comet Encke using the STEREO probes helped astronomers figure out what in the void between the planets of the Solar system “walk” a powerful storm, the whirlwinds and squalls, according to a paper published in the Astrophysical Journal.

“The solar wind in the vicinity of the Earth approximately 70 times hotter than it should be in theory, if we rely on the temperature of the solar corona and how much it expands as it moves through the void. Then, where does this excess heat had remained a mystery to physics of the solar wind for many decades,” said Craig Deforest (Craig DeForest) at the southwest research Institute in boulder (USA).

DeForest and his colleagues have solved this mystery and explained a few other unusual features in the life of the Solar system, observing the comet Encke using a pair of STEREO satellites launched by NASA to monitor the “weather” in the Sun. Continue reading
