The discoverer of the ninth planet

DWARF PLANET

They dived to the bottom of hell, under the thick neon-methane atmosphere of Pluto. Flew in the snow storms of ammonia, every second fearing a break in the dark about huge needles durable as steel, water ice. They managed to find an area where there are mountains. The mystery of Pluto has been solved at last — this planet belongs to our Solar system. She captured her during the journey of the Sun through the Galaxy.

SEARCH OF THE WANDERERS

Amateur astronomer William Herschel, discoverer of Uranus

The discovery of Pluto, which for a long time officially considered the ninth planet of the Solar system, has its own history. Before the advent of telescopes humanity were well known five celestial bodies called planets (from the Greek for “Wanderers”, “wandering”): mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn. During the four following centuries managed to open two more major planets, Uranus and Neptune. Continue reading

Top 10: huge space objects

Oceans, of course, is extensive, and the mountains are impressive for its size. 7 billion people is also not a small number. Since we live on planet Earth (whose diameter is 12742 km), it is easy for us to forget how we, in fact, tiny. In order to realize it, all we need to do is look into the night sky. Looking at it, it becomes clear that we are just a speck of dust in an unimaginably vast universe. The list of objects below will help to see the greatness of man in the future.

The largest planet (by diameter 142.984 km)

Jupiter is the largest planet in the Solar system. Ancient astronomers named Jupiter king of the Roman gods. Jupiter is the 5th planet from the Sun. Its atmosphere consists of 84% hydrogen, 15% helium with small admixtures of acetylene, ammonia, ethane, methane, and water vapor hospita. The mass of Jupiter is 318 times the mass of Earth, and its diameter is larger than the earth 11 times. The mass of Jupiter is 70% of the mass of all other planets of our solar system. The volume of Jupiter can hold 1300 planets the size of Earth. Jupiter has 63 known satellites (moons), but almost all of them are very small and dim.

Solar system

Universe – all existing world, and not having borders in time and space. The earth is one of nine planets that revolve around the sun in very similar orbits on circles. Earth is the third planet from the Sun after mercury and Venus, after Earth comes Mars, ending the inner group of planets . different small size and solid surface. Followed by the giant planets of the outer group . consisting of hydrogen and helium-Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and little Pluto. In the interplanetary space sweep the comets and meteoric bodies. Seven of the nine planets have satellites . they just opened more than 50. The Earth satellite – the Moon is large (fifth largest and first with respect to the mass of the planet) and causing tidal movement, covering the whole Earth from the core to the surface.

The sun and its planets are called Solar system . The diameter of the Solar system 12 billion km from the Sun significantly more Land – in 333 thousand times the mass, and 109 times the diameter. The average distance from the earth to the Sun is 149.6 million km is taken as the astronomical unit to measure distances in the Solar system. Continue reading
