Signus together with Soyuz TMA-M

Soyuz TMA-MC is a Russian multi-seater spacecraft for flight in earth orbit.

New upgraded version of the spacecraft “Soyuz TMA-M”. The update will affect almost every system of manned spacecraft. The first launch is planned no earlier than 2016.

The main points of the program of modernization of the spacecraft:

the energy-conversion efficiency of solar cells, will be enhanced through the use of more efficient Photovoltaic cells;

the reliability of rendezvous and docking of spacecraft with the space station due to the change in engine installation of the mooring and orientation. Continue reading

Matt Taylor – the adventures of Rosetta

Caught the comet British astrophysicist Matt Taylor told the guests of the festival 360° about the Rosetta mission. about why study comets in General, and about their own role in this Grand project. We have selected a few interesting quotes from Kinot-speech for those who for some reason missed the lecture or watched the broadcast.

About comets in General

I will tell you about their history, about their view on what the Rosetta mission, because I am only a small part of a huge team. So why do we study comets?

This film, created by Polish Studio Platige Image jointly with ESA] was released shortly before docking of the probe Philae from the comet. Its task is to explain the purpose of our mission. We hope to learn more about the evolution of the Solar system – where did we come from? Therefore, it is important to understand how on Earth there was water.

Here’s what we know about comets after all observations. Their Central core is very small if to compare with the “tail” of dust and gas that the comet emits. Continue reading

Module Philae space probe Rosetta

The long-awaited event that all of us space community was ten years old, happened in 19.03 Moscow time on 12 November 2014. It is difficult to imagine the average person that the operation occurred at a distance of more than 500 million kilometers from Earth!

For the first time in the history of space exploration module “Philae” the European space Academy reached the nucleus surface of comet 67P /Churyumov-Gerasimenko and landed.

This is the first and incredibly complex operation in the history of science, when the artificial origin sat down on the comet. The difficulties were in the fact that moving a celestial body has an unusual shape. The comet is named after its discoverers – the Soviet scientists-astronomers Klim Churyumov and Svetlana Gerasimenko in 1969.

Dossier of the comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko

This comet belongs to the short – period body- it rotates around the Sun at a considerable distance, and therefore has no tail, and its trajectory crosses the orbits of Jupiter and Mars. The trajectory of rotation of the comet 67P has changed, it is influenced by the proximity of Jupiter.

Scientists claim that this celestial body appeared about 4.5 billion years ago, its agreement measures approximately 3 by 5 km. the First Photographs of the comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko were made in March 2003, with the help of which scientists have been able to build a three-dimensional image.
