Space flights cause a failure in the immune system of a person
The results of two studies of NASA, recently published in the journal journal of Interferon & Cytokine Research suggest that spaceflight may cause temporary changes in the immune system of crew members who are long time on Board the International Space Station.
Data obtained at an early stage of one of the experiments showed that the distribution of immune cells in the blood of crew members during the flight remained relatively unchanged. However, they found that some cell functions were significantly reduced, while the activity of another cell type, on the contrary, increased. That is, in a sense, the immune system of crew members, it failed.
If the cell activity is suppressed, the immune system cannot adequately react to threats, which can lead to asymptomatic for the virus. If activity is increased, the immune system becomes too sensitive, which can lead to the development of allergic reactions and persistent rashes, as well as reported some of the crew members.
In another study, scientists analyzed blood plasma, measuring the concentration of cytokines – proteins that regulate the immune system. Continue reading

Soyuz TMA-MC is a Russian multi-seater spacecraft for flight in earth orbit.
New upgraded version of the spacecraft “Soyuz TMA-M”. The update will affect almost every system of manned spacecraft. The first launch is planned no earlier than 2016.
The main points of the program of modernization of the spacecraft:
the energy-conversion efficiency of solar cells, will be enhanced through the use of more efficient Photovoltaic cells;
the reliability of rendezvous and docking of spacecraft with the space station due to the change in engine installation of the mooring and orientation. Continue reading
The main problems during space flight are considered motion sickness, fatigue, dehydration, loss of appetite and back pain
The astronauts can perform on the International space station not more than six months. And for good reason.
The loss of muscle and bone mass in zero gravity during this time is so great that the continued presence in space for humans is not possible.
Future space tourists will not go through the same tough training as cosmonauts and astronauts – how flying can affect their health?
In an article published by the British medical journal, argues that the district doctors in British clinics need to be prepared for the fact that in the near future, their patients will begin to wonder whether their body to move space travel.
Only a handful of doctors have sufficient knowledge in the field of space medicine to give expert advice. Continue reading
