At the science Museum in London opened a major exhibition “Cosmonauts: Birth of the space age”. It was to be the culmination of the cross year of Russia and great Britain, but now the British authorities have given guarantees for the return of Russian exhibits. Including artifacts that have never left the walls of private enterprises: the Soviet space ships, outfits, and archival documents. Tickets for the show sold out two months in advance.
This moment in London waiting for: when the world’s first woman astronaut will come to the machine in which it 52 years ago, spent almost three days, circling above the Earth.
“It’s such a faithful and reliable friend, by which without emotion could not be disregarded. And in the training center, when I meet him, every time I try to pet him and say “Hello!””, – says Valentina Tereshkova.
Spacecraft “Vostok-6” was never exported outside of Russia – like most of the exhibits of the exhibition dedicated to Soviet and Russian achievements in space exploration. A significant portion of what is now presented in the London Museum of science, and even Russia have seen a few. Continue reading
Humanity seems to have stayed in their home Solar system
In Houston there was a scientific conference on the most ambitious project of the century.
“Transition to transformation”
Humanity seems to have stayed in their home Solar system. Of his burning desire to go to other stars, scientists said at a scientific conference, held in October in Houston (Texas, USA). Experts discussed the most grandiose project of the century – “Centennial spaceship” (“100-Year Starship”, or 100YSS ).
– Despite all the technological advances of humans, in the field of space exploration we’re on the level of cave people, – assured the leader of 100YSS Mae Jamison. All we did was hang a station in earth orbit, where just sometimes come to live people. And also sent a robot to Mars, which only publishes Pictures in Instagram and writes in Twitter. The main task of space exploration in the long term should be the creation of colonies, which can live people. Continue reading
MOSCOW, October 14 – RIA Novosti. Observing the behavior of the dust tail of comet Encke using the STEREO probes helped astronomers figure out what in the void between the planets of the Solar system “walk” a powerful storm, the whirlwinds and squalls, according to a paper published in the Astrophysical Journal.
“The solar wind in the vicinity of the Earth approximately 70 times hotter than it should be in theory, if we rely on the temperature of the solar corona and how much it expands as it moves through the void. Then, where does this excess heat had remained a mystery to physics of the solar wind for many decades,” said Craig Deforest (Craig DeForest) at the southwest research Institute in boulder (USA).
DeForest and his colleagues have solved this mystery and explained a few other unusual features in the life of the Solar system, observing the comet Encke using a pair of STEREO satellites launched by NASA to monitor the “weather” in the Sun. Continue reading
